Search Riverside Recent Arrests
Riverside recent arrests are public records. The Riverside County Sheriff runs an online inmate search that covers everyone booked into county jails. Riverside is the county seat and the largest city in Riverside County. The police department handles local arrests, but the county sheriff processes all jail bookings. You can search recent Riverside arrest records for free using the county's JIMS database. The tool works at any time and shows names, charges, bail amounts, and booking dates. No account is needed to look up someone's arrest status in Riverside.
Riverside Arrest Records Quick Facts
Riverside Arrest Records Search
The Riverside County JIMS inmate locator is the primary tool for finding recent Riverside arrest records. JIMS stands for Jail Information Management System. You can search by name or by booking number. Enter as much info as you can to speed up the search. Results display the person's name, booking date, charges, and bail. The database covers all four Riverside County detention facilities. Records update throughout the day as new bookings get processed.
Riverside Police Department officers make a large share of the arrests that end up in the county system. When an officer takes someone into custody in Riverside, that person is transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center at 4000 Orange Street. This is the main jail in the city of Riverside. The booking creates the record that shows up in JIMS. If you cannot find someone in the system, they may have already been released or transferred to another facility in Riverside County.
Note: The JIMS tool shows current custody status only, not historical Riverside arrest data.
Robert Presley Detention Center
Robert Presley is the main detention center in Riverside. It sits at 4000 Orange Street, Riverside, CA 92501. The phone number is (951) 955-4500. Most people arrested in the city of Riverside get booked here. Staff at the jail record the person's name, date of birth, and physical description during intake. Charges go into the system. Bail is set using the Riverside County bail schedule. Once booking wraps up, the arrest record appears in the online search tool within a few hours.
Riverside County also runs three other jails. The Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta handles bookings from the southwest part of the county. The Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning covers the pass area. The John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio serves the desert cities. All four facilities feed into the same JIMS search system. Riverside Arrest Disclosure Under State Law
Government Code 7923.610 requires California law enforcement to disclose specific arrest details. The law covers the arrested person's full name, occupation, physical description, date and time of arrest, date and time of booking, arrest location, circumstances of the arrest, bail amount, charges, and release info. Riverside Police and the Riverside County Sheriff both follow this statute. That is why the JIMS tool shows detailed booking data for each person in custody.
Agencies can hold back a piece of info if sharing it would put someone at risk or harm an ongoing investigation. This exception is narrow. The default is that Riverside arrest data gets published. The California Public Records Act gives any person the right to request arrest reports from Riverside Police or the sheriff. The agency must respond within 10 days.
Sealing Riverside Arrest Records
People arrested in Riverside who were not convicted can seek to seal that record. Penal Code 851.87 lets you petition Riverside County Superior Court to seal an arrest that did not lead to a conviction. Once sealed, most background checks will not show it. You can legally say you were not arrested for that offense.
California's automatic arrest relief program also applies to Riverside arrests. AB 1076 tells the DOJ to review records monthly. If your Riverside arrest was a misdemeanor from January 1, 2021, or later and charges were dismissed or no case was filed within a year, relief is automatic. The DOJ does it. No petition needed.
Note: Automatic relief does not apply to all arrest types. Felony arrests and certain misdemeanors are excluded.
Riverside Booking Photo Restrictions
State law restricts how booking photos from Riverside arrests can be used. SB 1027 bans websites from charging people to remove their booking photo. Anyone who pays to have a Riverside booking photo taken down can sue for at least $1,000. The law protects people from exploitation after an arrest.
AB 1475 limits Riverside Police and the sheriff from posting booking photos on social media for nonviolent crimes. Exceptions exist for fugitives and public safety threats. These rules apply to every arrest in Riverside and the rest of California.
Riverside Arrests and State Databases
Beyond the county jail search, Riverside arrest records feed into state-level systems. The California DOJ keeps a statewide criminal history database. You can get your own record through a Live Scan process for $25. The DOJ will not share your record with third parties without consent. For checking if someone is in a California state prison after a Riverside conviction, the CDCR CIRIS search covers current state inmates.
The California DOJ record review page explains the steps for requesting your own criminal history in California.
