Jurupa Valley Arrest Record Laws

Government Code 7923.610 requires all arrest details to be made public. The law says agencies must share the arrested person's full name, occupation, physical description, date of birth, arrest and booking times, arrest location, circumstances, bail, release information, and charges. The Riverside County Sheriff follows this for all Jurupa Valley arrests. The only exception is when releasing a piece of information would endanger someone or compromise an investigation.

The law went into effect January 1, 2023. It is part of a broader set of transparency rules in California. For Jurupa Valley residents, this means you have a legal right to basic arrest booking data. The county cannot refuse it without a valid reason under the statute.

Sealing Jurupa Valley Arrest Records

An arrest in Jurupa Valley that did not lead to a conviction can be sealed. Penal Code 851.87 lets you petition Riverside County Superior Court. You file the paperwork, and the court reviews your case. If approved, the arrest record is sealed from most background checks. You can say you were not arrested for that charge. This helps with job applications, rental applications, and other situations where background checks come up.

California also runs an automatic process through AB 1076. The DOJ checks records monthly for eligible arrests. Qualifying misdemeanor arrests from January 2021 forward get relief without any filing from you. The charges had to be dismissed or never pursued within one year. This automatic system covers Jurupa Valley arrests that go through the Riverside County courts.

Check Your Own Criminal History

You can review your own record through the California DOJ record review process. Submit Live Scan fingerprints and pay $25. Fee waivers exist. The DOJ mails back a complete summary of your California criminal history, which includes any arrests in Jurupa Valley and across the state. This is strictly for your own record. You cannot request someone else's history through this process.

If you spot errors on your record, file a challenge with form BCIA 8706. The DOJ will look into it and make changes if the information turns out to be wrong. Errors can cause real problems during background checks, so it pays to review your record periodically and get any mistakes corrected.

Note: The DOJ record review only works for your own history and costs $25 unless you qualify for a fee waiver.
