Search El Monte Recent Arrests

El Monte recent arrest records go through the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The El Monte Police Department makes arrests within city limits, but booking happens in the LA County jail system. Once someone is booked, they appear in the county's online inmate search tool. You can also check the booking log for recent entries. Both systems are free to use and give you basic arrest information. El Monte sits in the San Gabriel Valley, and its arrests flow into the same massive county system that handles all of LA County.

El Monte Arrests in the LA County System

El Monte has its own police department. Officers patrol the city and make arrests. But once a person is taken into custody, they go into the Los Angeles County jail system. The county sheriff runs the jails. Most El Monte bookings happen at one of the large county facilities in downtown Los Angeles or Lynwood. Men's Central Jail at 441 Bauchet Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 is a common destination. Twin Towers Correctional Facility sits next door at 450 Bauchet Street. Women are sent to Century Regional Detention Facility at 11705 S. Alameda Street in Lynwood.

The booking process creates a record that goes into the county database. This record includes the person's name, charges, arrest date, bail amount, and housing location. All of this information is searchable through the county's online tools. El Monte arrest records end up in the same system as arrests from Los Angeles, Long Beach, and dozens of other cities in the county.

How to Look Up El Monte Recent Arrests

The LA County Inmate Information Center is the fastest way to search for El Monte arrest records. You enter a first and last name. The site uses reCAPTCHA to block automated lookups. Results show the booking number, arrest date, arresting agency, charges, bail amount, and next court date. The search only covers people currently in custody.

You can also check the LA County booking log for recent entries. The booking log has a separate process. If you want access for journalistic, academic, or government purposes, you need to fill out a Booking Information Declaration. This extra form is required before the sheriff's department shares certain data from the log.

Note: The inmate search shows current jail population only, so released individuals will not appear.

El Monte Arrest Record Laws

California law gives the public a right to basic arrest information. Government Code 7923.610 spells out exactly what must be released. It covers the arrested person's full name, occupation, physical description, date of birth, the time and date of both the arrest and booking, the location of the arrest, circumstances, bail amount, release details, and all charges. The El Monte Police Department and the LA County Sheriff both must follow this law.

This state tool covers prison inmates only. For El Monte jail bookings, use the LA County search instead.

There are limits. Penal Code 13300 defines local summary criminal history information and restricts who can access it. The full criminal history is not public. Only the contemporaneous arrest details listed under Government Code 7923.610 must be shared openly.

Sealing El Monte Arrest Records

An arrest in El Monte does not always lead to charges. If your case was dismissed or never filed, Penal Code 851.87 gives you the option to petition the court to seal the arrest record. A sealed record will not show on most background checks. You can legally state you were not arrested for that charge once the court grants the petition.

AB 1076 added an automatic process. The California DOJ now reviews records monthly. Misdemeanor arrests from January 1, 2021, forward that were dismissed or where no case was filed within one year may be cleared automatically. This covers El Monte arrests that meet the criteria. You do not need to file anything yourself for the automatic relief.

State Resources for El Monte Arrest Records

The California DOJ record review program lets you check your own criminal history. Submit Live Scan fingerprints and pay the $25 fee. Fee waivers are available. The DOJ sends your complete record, covering arrests from El Monte and the rest of the state. This is for your own record only. You cannot use it to look up someone else.

For state prison inmates, use the CDCR Incarcerated Records and Information Search. It covers anyone currently in CDCR custody. You can search by name or CDCR number. The results include current location, admission date, and parole hearing schedules. This does not cover people in LA County jail.

The LA County Sheriff's Records and Identification Bureau is at 12440 East Imperial Highway, Suite 400 West, Norwalk, CA 90650. Call (562) 345-4441. They are open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., by appointment only. For record sealing questions, call (562) 345-4454.

El Monte Booking Photo Restrictions

Civil Code 1798.91.1 prohibits commercial websites from charging people money to take down booking photos. If your El Monte booking photo appears on one of these sites and they demand payment, that is a violation. You can pursue damages of at least $1,000 plus attorney fees. This law protects anyone booked in California.

Law enforcement also faces restrictions. Penal Code 13665 prevents agencies from sharing booking photos on social media for nonviolent offenses. There are narrow exceptions for fugitives or cases involving public safety threats.

Note: These photo restrictions apply statewide and cover every arrest processed through El Monte or LA County.
